That's why politicians running for office as first among equals don't think of themselves as that, so they're smart. They don't position themselves as that, so they're practical. They don't pride themselves on that, so they're effective. They don't look down on people like that, so they're electable, and above all they don't campaign like that, so they're unbeatable.
How fitting is the old saying about rolling with the punches? Taking it in the ear is normal for them.
